Come learn about and support Hope Ministries, at Hope Ministries 57th Annual Community Luncheon-September 8-Palais Royale, South Bend, IN. Take part as our residents present Spirit of Hope Awards to the Boys and Girls Club of St. Joseph County, Crooked Creek Ranch Horseback Riding Ministries, and the South Bend Community School Corporation parenting program. These awards are given to these organizations for the great and lasting impact they have made on our 18 families living at our Family Life Center.

Senior Health Fair at the Council on Aging-Sept. 10.
The Senior Health Fair at the Council on Aging is Sept. 10th from 8 a.m. until noon and provides free health screenings and information, plus a healthy breakfast sponsored by Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital.
New this year will be free document shredding from Mountain High Shredding Service. Since peace of mind is an important part of good health, anyone attending this year’s health fair may bring in old papers to be shredded.
Some items that are recommended for shredding are: credit card receipts and statements, bank statements, medical records, or anything with personal or financial information that could be used by an identity thief.
Returning services will include massage therapists providing free head and neck massages, information on adaptive equipment and balance and fall prevention.
Other local businesses and organizations will have information on safety, care services, nutrition and more.
The Cass County Council on Aging is The Cass COA is located at M-60 and Decatur Road in Cassopolis.

ANNUAL HOG ROAST TO BENEFIT SPECIAL OLYMPICS INDIANA–ST. JOSEPH COUNTY-September 18
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Special Olympics Indiana –St. Joseph County will hold its second annual hog roast fundraiser on Saturday, September 18 from noon until 8 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus council hall, located at 61533 S. Ironwood Road in South Bend.
The event will feature live music from seven different bands, a raffle and other prizes, face painting, a dunk tank and more. Pork dinners and other food and beverages will be available for purchase along with a cash bar. Admission to the event is $2.
The event will also include a silent auction to benefit Special Olympics with a number of items donated by area businesses, such as a Notre Dame basketball signed by Coach Brey, gift certificates to restaurants such as Bonefish Grill, Gino’s East of Chicago Pizza and much more.
Proceeds for the event will benefit Special Olympics Indiana –St. Joseph County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. More than 250 people participate in the program, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Michiana Cancer Patients to Model for more than 1,300 People at Local Fashion Show!
The Women’s Task Force of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center announced today the 9th Annual Secret Sisters Society Luncheon and Style Show will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15th at the Joyce Athletic and Convocation Center. The annual event celebrates local cancer survivors and promotes the early detection of breast cancer by funding screening mammograms for underserved women in the community.
Michael Method, MD, MPH, FACS, FACOG, Medical Advisor for the Women’s Task Force and gynecologic oncologist for Michiana Hematology Oncology, will co-emcee the 9th Annual Secret Sisters Society Luncheon and Style Show. Eighteen local cancer survivors of all ages will share their inspiring stories of courage and determination as they model fall fashion trends before an audience that has continued to grow since the first luncheon in 2002.
